On 12 February 2026 Proton-M rocket launcher with DM-03 booster lifted off from Baikonur cosmodrome, carrying Elektro-L No.5 mission for Earth remote sensing. Thr spacecraft was successfully inserted into geostationary orbit more than 35 thousand kilometer high. IKI Special Desing Bureau for Space Instrument enigeneering contributed to its payload.

Annual conference opened at IKI on 9 February 2026 г.

4 февраля 2026 г. в ИКИ РАН состоялась рабочая встреча с советником по космосу отдела взаимодействия по техническим вопросам Индийской организации космических исследований (ISRO) посольства Индии в Москве господином Сриваставой Анупом Кумаром.

3 февраля 2026 г. в ИКИ РАН состоялась рабочая встреча с советником посольства Китайской народной республики в России господином Ганем Юном (GAN Yong).

Strange events occurred near the Earth after solar flare X1.9 on 18 January 2026. That were the arrival of coronal mass ejection on 19 January, followed by record flux of solar protons and geomagnetic storm on 19–21 January. Mikhail Pavlinsky ART-XC telescope aboard Spektr-RG observatory studied the solar flare and the proton event in the vicinity of L2 Lagrange point.

January 13, 2026 Spektr-RG observatory marked 6.5 years since the day of its launch, which is also its guaranteed operational time. Today the observatory has successfully completed its nominal mission and continues studying the Universe in hard X-ray range.

To use the Sun as a calibration source for MTVZA-GYa instrument aboard the Meteor‑M No. 2–4 satellite was proposed by researchers from IKI and Lomonosov Moscow State University.

Broadband electromagnetic radiation produced by collisions of charged dust particles was studied by researchers from IKI and their colleagues from MIPT and A. M Obkhov IAP RAS through observations in the Eurasian steppe and laboratory experiments simulating the Martian atmosphere. Their results, obtained for the first time, were confirmed by observations from the Perseverance rover (NASA) on the surface of Mars.
