On August 8, 2024 BTN-M1 instrument onboad Russian segment of the ISS resumed gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) monitoring together with Russian neutron spectrometer HEND (onboard NASA's Mars Odyssey mission). Just the day after they detected new GRB240809A from hypernova at a distance z ~ 1.5.

Using data from ACS spectrometer onboard TGO spacecraft, IKI scientist Ekaterina Starichenko and her colleagues studied gravity waves in Martian atmosphere, from the surface to the 160-km height, and the effect, which seasonal changes and dust storms have upon them. Results were published in the Astronomy&Astrophysics.

Six special centers for collective use formed a new consortium "Distributed Scientific Supercomputer Infrastructure".

On August 15, 2024 Soyuz-2.1a rocket launcher blasted off the launch pad at Baikonur cosmodrome carrying Progress MS-28 cargo spaceship to the International Space Station. Its payload includes All-Sky-Monitor X-ray spectrometer, made at IKI, which will study the X-ray background radiation with unprecedented accuracy. Docking to the ISS is scheduled for August 17, 2024.

On Sunday, August 4th, it was the closing day for the Ninth Summer Space School, which took place at IKI starting on July 27, It is an annual event for everyone interested in space exploration.

Academician Gennady Krasnikov, president of the Russian Academy of Sciences, visited IKI in praise of the 5th anniversary of Spektr-RG launch.

Scientists from Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, Computing Center of the RAS Far-Eastern Branch, IKI and Planeta Center For Space Hydrometeorology made the discovery, using satellite data and VolSatView infromation system. By the early June, 2024 the dome was already 100 meter high.

On July 13, 2019, Proton rocket launcher with DM-03 booster blasted off from Baikonur cosmodrome, carrying Russian X-ray observatory Spektr-RG. Today, we name some — but by no means the only — fascinating results of its work in these five years.

On July 1st and 2nd cosmonauts Alexey Ovchinin and Ivan Vagner practised EVA elements with the payload for All-Sky Monitor experiment (MVN) in the Yu. A. Gagarin Research & Test Cosmonaut Training Center.

From 1st to 5th July, the School was attented by more than 80 researchers, who discussed various problems relating to laboratory modelling of the astrophysical processes, search for life on exoplanets, and other urgent questions of astrophysics, geophysics, and space physics.
