X-ray astrophysics

Mikhail Pavlinsky ART-XC X-Ray telescope and Integral observatory look at Swift J1727.8-1613 X-Ray nova – the brightest object in the summer X-ray sky of 2023.

On July 13, 2023 Spektr-RG space observatory marks its fourth year since the launch. More that 1.1 terabytes of telemetry data have been downstreamed to the Earth, which later turned into tens of terabytes of scientific data. More than 70 papers have been already published, which investigate hundreds and thousands of X-ray sources.

This finding confirms the hypothesis that the supermassive black hole in the center of our Galaxy once had been much more active that it is now. The results are published in the Nature journal.

…and went back again. Literally all X-ray space observatories studied this outburst in 2023, and among them was Integral. The paper with the first results of the observations was sent to MNRAS and published on arXiv.org. The picture from the paper was selected as the June 2023 Picture of the Month of the Integral observatory.

On the eve of the day of Russian science, Russian Academy of Sciences awarded the winners of the 2021 competition for RAS awards for young scientists and students. Among them are IKI astrophysicicts Andrei Semena, Ilya Mereminsky, Igor Zaznobin.

Astrophysicists from IKI and Ioffe Institute, using the data from SRG/eROSITA space telescope, studied the properties of a shock in Coma cluster of galaxies. The paper summarising their results was accepted for publication in Astronomy&Astrophysics.

On September, 1, an Astronomy Telegram from Mikhail Pavlinsky ART-XC team announced a discovery of an optical counterpart of a bright X-ray pulsar — a transient star V520 in constellation Monoceros, which is Unicorn in Greek.
