Space Physics For High-School Students A series of lectures for 7-10-year-students under the supplemental program on space physics ran at IKI in the end of 2023, as part of the project "Academic Class at Moscow School". Space Weather For High-School Students In the last two months of 2023 students of 7–10-year visited a series of lessons on project and research activities at IKI, as part of the project "Academic Class at Moscow School". New Algorithms For Earth Remote Sensing Data Of MTVZYa Instrument Scientists from IKI Earth Research From Space Department develop new algorithms for microwave radiometer data onboard the spacecraft of Meteor-M series. These results are alrady being integrated into VEGA-Science information system. Energetic Electrons Cool The Solar System When Voyagers left the Solar System in 2010's, they discovered that the inner heliosheath is significantly thinner than predicted. Now, the 3D MHD-modelling run by IKI scientists showed that the fact can be explained, if we consider the effect of hot electrons and their thermal conductivity. Their results were published in MNRAS and are available on arXiv.org. High Energy Astrophysics Today And Tomorrow 2023 Annual all-Russian conference "High Energy Astrophyiscs Today And Tomorrow 2023", aka HEA–2023, starts on Monday, December 18 at IKI. Neural Network Studies Mural Paintings IKI researchers together with art experts from Kirillo-Belozersky Museum explore the possibilities to restore ancient masterpieces using artificial neural networks. Clouds In Focus A new technique to estimate the size of particles in polar stratospheric and noctlilucent clouds was suggested by Oleg Ugolnikov, senior researchers at IKI. With the accuracy comparable to that of lidars and satellites, this method involves much simpler equipment, such as off-the-shelf RGB-cameras. Studies of these atmospheric phenomena are crucial to understand climate changes. Meteor-M To Study the Earth's Atmosphere Scientists from IKI and V.I. Il'ichev Pacific Oceanological Institute (Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences) discussed the future work with Meteor-M No 2-3 satellite data. Mikhail Marov. 28 July 1933 – 30 November 2023 It is with deep sadness that we report the passing of Academician Mikhail Marov, our colleague and a pioneer of Solar System research, whose contribution to the programs of Moon, Mars, and especially Venus exploration cannot be overestimated.
