Shock Waves Can Explain Why Solar Wind Is Not That Cold In the Distant Solar System IKI researchers suggested the mechanism, which can explain unexpected heating of solar wind on the large distances from the Sun. Academician Rashid Sunyaev Awarded Max Planck Medal Academician Rashid Sunyaev was awarded the Max Planck Medal, the highest prize in theoretical physics granted by the German Physical Society (DPG), in recognition of “numerous and fundamental contributions to relativistic astrophysics and cosmology.” Modern Problems of the Earth Remote Sensing - 2022 On November 14 the 20th international conference "Modern Problems of the Earth Remote Sensing - 2022" started at IKI. Volcanic Eruption From the Past For the first time, the motion dynamics of an eruptive cloud, which formed during the catastrophic eruption of the Sheveluch volcano on November 11, 1964 (Volcanic Explosivity Index 4+), was reconstructed thanks to modern data processing methods and the databases of meteorological data. Mikhail Pavlinsky ART-XC Telescope Follows Space Weather The X-ray telescope onboard Spektr-RG space observatory entered the second year of space weather monitoring in L2 point. Getting grips on a strongly magnetized neutron star geometry Researchers from the Space Research Institute and their colleagues determined geometrical parameters of a neutron star floating in the Galaxy 21,000 light years away. The finding confirms old ideas that this star precesses like a whirligig. The results were published in Nature Astronomy.
