On 30 July 2025 the Kluychevskoy volcano, and on 2 August the Krasheninnikov volcano — which had been dormant for more than 500 years. Scientists monitor these events, using among other methods the VolSatView monitoring system. Ozonometers Go To Space The successful launch of the second pair of Ionosphere‑M satellites, Nos. 3 and 4, of the Ionozond project took place on 25 July 2025. The scientific payload of these spacecraft includes two Ozonometer‑TM instruments for monitoring total ozone content in the Earth’s atmosphere. Roscosmos: Ionosphere-M No 3 And 4 Spacecraft Launched and Taken Under Control Today at 08:54 MSK, the Soyuz-2.1b launcher with the Fregat upper stage, carrying the heliogeophysical spacecraft Ionosfera-M No. 3 and No. 4, and 18 small spacecraft was launched from the Vostochny Cosmodrome. The Fregat upper stage placed two Ionosfera-M No. 3 and No. 4 satellites into orbit, and they are under the control of the specialists at the Flight Control Center. IKI Exhibits in Altai At the end of May 2025, an exhibition 'Man and Space: Discoveries and Achievements' opened at the State Memorial Museum of Herman Titov in Polkovnikovo, featuring exhibits from IKI and the Institute of Biomedical Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Russian Science Foundation to Support Young Scientists On July 11, 2025 RSF announced the results of three competitions for young scientists. Among the winners are three projects, led by IKI scientists. The Khludov Psalter Inscribed on the UNESCO Memory of the World International Register The Khludov Psalter is one of the earliest objects of Byzantine post-iconoclast art, created in Constantinople in the middle of the 9th century and now kept in the State Historical Museum. Thanks to the joint work of the Museum's and IKI scientists, the original illustrations hidden under the later images of the XIV century were revealed. Powerful Quasar Uncovered by Mikhail Pavlinsky ART-XC Telescope During its all-sky survey, Mikhail Pavlinsly ART-XC telescope aboard the Spektr-RG observatory discovered a previously unknown X-ray source, SRGA J230631.0+155633. Further studies revealed that this is one of the most powerful and interesting quasars that have existed in the Universe over the past five billion years. Dr. Anatoly Petrukovich, the director of the Space Research Institute, was elected Academician of the RAS. Dr. Maxim Litvak, the head of the laboratory in the IKI Department of Nuclear Planetology, elected Corresponding Member of the RAS.
