State Historical Museum

The Khludov Psalter is one of the earliest objects of Byzantine post-iconoclast art, created in Constantinople in the middle of the 9th century and now kept in the State Historical Museum. Thanks to the joint work of the Museum's and IKI scientists, the original illustrations hidden under the later images of the XIV century were revealed.

Is it possible to see the IX century miniature under the painting of XIV century? Is it possible to read an early medieval text, which had been erased and covered with new lines? Thanks to the collaborative work of IKI and State Historical Museum, the answer is: 'Yes".

Researchers from State Historical Museum and IKI were awarded with the Literature and Arts Prize of Central Federal District. They use multispectral imaging to study ancient manuscripts.
