Space Science Days 2025 Dedicated to the IKI's 60th Anniversary On 2 October 2025, IKI RAS held a Space Science Day dedicated to the Institute’s 60th anniversary. Galactic Centre In X-Rays Mikhail Pavlinsly ART-XC X-ray telescope studies the properties of the nuclear stellar disc of the Milky Way. Scientific Debate "What Should the Modern System for Accounting Russia's Forests Be Like" The scientific debate "What Should the Modern System for Accounting Russia's Forests Be Like" was held at IKI RAS on 17 September 2025. Sergey Bartalev, head of a laboratory at IKI, gave a talk "The Potential of Remote Sensing Methods for the Unified System for Accounting Forests of Russia." Final of the Space Expedition of the First in Moscow From 27 to 29 August 2025, the final of the nationwide project "Space Expedition of the First 2025" took place in Moscow, with about two hundred schoolchildren and students from 33 regions of the Russian Federation participating. IKI scientists gave lectures for the project participants. Oil Spill in the Black Sea Seen From Space On the morning of 29 August 2025, while loading oil onto the Turkish tanker T. Semahat at the CPC (Caspian Pipeline Consortium) marine terminal, a hose ruptured and oil spilled into the sea. Specialists from IKI and the P. P. Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of the RAS monitor the area of the accident using the capabilities of the IKI-Monitoring Centre For Collective Use. Prof. Alexander Lutovinov On Space Science in Artek Prof. Alexander Lutovinov, IKI deputy director and corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, gave a presentation about the history and modern achievements of space science to the participants of the special program “300 Years of the RAS: A Fundamental View of the World,” organized by the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Artek International Children's Center. He also answered the question — why study the Universe at all. Volcanoes' Eruptions In July And August 2025 Seen From Space Two volcanoes on Kamchatka peninsula began erupting. On 30 July 2025 the Kluychevskoy volcano, and on 2 August the Krasheninnikov volcano — which had been dormant for more than 500 years. Scientists monitor these events, using among other methods the VolSatView monitoring system. Ozonometers Go To Space The successful launch of the second pair of Ionosphere‑M satellites, Nos. 3 and 4, of the Ionozond project took place on 25 July 2025. The scientific payload of these spacecraft includes two Ozonometer‑TM instruments for monitoring total ozone content in the Earth’s atmosphere.
