Project Ionozond, Stage 1: Ionosphere-M №1 and №2

Mission Status

Two identical satellites Ionosphere-M №1 and №2 are to be launched on November 5, 2024 from Vostochny launch pad. г. They are part of Ionozond project, which will focus on the studies of terrestrial ionosphere and space weather monitoring.

Ionozond-2025

Ionosphere is the upper layer of the atmosphere, ionized by solar high-energy radiation (hence the name). It is very special ‘shell’ of our planet, since its parameters are crucial for prediction of space weather in the nearest future. That’s why it’s important to monitor the state of the ionosphere, not only from the surface of the Earth, but also from space, using specific instruments — ionosondes, or chirpsounders.
