In general

The testing and control station (Russian acronym KIS) is a complex of facilities to test scientific and other instruments before they are installed on a spacecraft and check their operability as a part of on-board equipment and in space environment.

Requirements specification for future KIS, its structure, and equipment makeup were developed in 1971 under the supervision of IKI Deputy Director V.M. Ratner. The KIS building was finished in 1976. All development was carried out under the leadership of A.L. Rodin, who headed KIS from 1976 to 1989.

Today KIS is the accredited testing facility.

Considering the ever-increasing extent of the onboard instrumentation ground testing the Institute is renewing its testing sections equipment.
