On 30 July Roskosmos cosmonauts Anna Kikina and Pyotr Dubrov, members of the ISS Expedition 75, changed the configuration of BTN-M2 instrument, which works aboard Nauka module of the Russian Segment of the ISS.

IKI scientists and their colleagues from the international team got new evidence in favour of the fact that the Peanut galaxy cluster (SRGe CL0238.3+2005) undergoes a stage of collision between two giant substructures — soon after their nuclei have passed through each other. This follows from the measurements of the galaxies’ radial velocities, X-ray observations data, and dynamical simulations. The study has been published in Astronomy & Astrophysics* and the Journal of High Energy Astrophysics.

IKI scientists study the effect of geocoronal Lyman-alpha radiation on ultraviolet observations from space. These results are crucial for future UV-missions such as Spektr-UV space observatory.

Third planet in Beta Pictoris system was recently discovered with the help of NIRSpec instrument onboard James Webb Space Telescope (NASA). Vladislava Ananyeva, IKI scientist, explains the details of the discovery.

Infrared satellite images taken in May 2026 clearly show the astonishing rate of wildfires propagation: just in few days a small site turned into a major disaster. Images of Landsat (USGS) and Sentinel-2 (ESA) satellites were processed with the help of VEGA-Science information system developed at IKI.

Opening ceremony of the exhibition «INTERKOSMOS — Council for International Cooperation in the Exploration and Use of Outer Space under the USSR Academy of Sciences» took place on 10 June 2026 in the margins of the 69th session of UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS) in Vienna, Austria.

On 3 June 2026 samples of the lunar matter taken at the far side of the Moon for the first time ever by Chinese Chang'E 6 mission in 2024 were delivered to IKI.

In the end of April and first half of May the final of the 11th International Competition of Scientific and Technological Projects "Big Challenges" took place.
