On May 15, 20205 IKI celebrates its birthday. The Institute was founded as a principal organisation for space research and exploration for fundamental science in the Academy of Sciences of the USSR under the Government Resolution from May 15, 1965 No. 392-147.

The order was signed by Valery Falkov, Minister of Science and Higher Education of Russia, on March 13, 2024.

According to the results of the secret voting the Election Committee decreed to hold Dr. Anatoly Petrukovich elected as a Director of Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

It is with deep sadness we pass on the news that Academician Dr. Albert A. Galeev, the director of IKI in 1988–2002, passed away on September 12, 2022.
